Siegfruede ^_^

( Shipping portmaneau’s are silly but useful, might as well throw in some extra meaning. Siegfried + Rue. Freude = joy in German. Sieg is victory in Germany. Joy over victory, cause I want that happy ending to work out. )

Character : Ahiru (あひる)
Source : Princess Tutu (プリンセスチュチュ)
First seen : In a random AMV on Youtube, a few years before actually watching it.

Initial Impression : Ahiru is immensely likable in many ways, but not one of immediate impression. As far as shojo stories go, she’s typically clumsy, sweet and pure, and amidst a rapidly role changing cast she is the one pillar of stability. I was more interested in Fakir and Rue.

In Retrospect : It wasn’t till recently till I realized she has one subtle thing that makes her stand out : she isn’t actually the most pure hearted. Ahiru plays this beacon as a role in the form of Princess Tutu, during which she becomes wiser, smarter and physically fitter, but her heart remains the same. And the truth is, that heart isn’t pure. Part of her was selfish enough to not want the story to end, so she could continue not being a duck.

Ahiru’s mind always tries to do the best, but her heart isn’t perfectly behind this. Raven!Mytho never goes after Ahiru’s heart, even though he knows her well enough to have noticed what kind of heart she has.

She still manages to overcome that and do the right thing in the end, and never even considered Drosselmeyer’s suggestion she keep the locations of the remaining shards hidden. She doesn’t overcome the tragedy of the story because she just was the most good person around, but because she chose to be that person when even Drosselmeyer set her up to fail.

Final Opinion : Ahiru’s much of the gentle, protective character type I love (Lady Light), but with a nifty little change on the core principle. I’m not as intensely over her as with Rue, got a more quiet fandom for her.

“How will the story end?”

Day 2 - Favorite anime you’ve watched so far.

There’s no easy answer, as I have more than one way to enjoy stuff. Quality matters to me, but not entirely. A certain type of fun doesn’t even exist when I’m entirely satisfied with the material.

1. Princess Tutu hits the most of tropes and themes and quality that I love, and hands down wins type 1 fandom.

2. Monster is squarely into type 2 fandom, with a massively fleshed out and sympathetic cast and similarly strong themes that are in my lines.

3. Rokumon Tengai Mon Colle Knights is my biggest flawed but lovable nostalgia blob, and happens to be in a franchise I like, so I’ll place that here. This one I’ve got most emotional attachment to.

4. Slayers should probably be here for category 4, since it’s the only thingy in this category that I can write for without being really spiteful at some point or another.

I want to hear you say that you love me.

cyanknights:

does Fakir artistically makes tears in every single one of his clothes as soon as he puts his hands on them, spending hours carefully choosing where the tears and holes will be for maximum badass effect, or is it just my imagination

(what if ahiru decides he has too many shirts with holes in them and patches everything with awfully colorful patches and awful clashing stitching and tries to embroider a smiling face in every single one of them)
